DESCRIPTION: This tabletop vacuum tube AM radio was manufactured by Motorola in 1963 time frame in excellent working condition. The offset superimposed grill is reminiscent of Virgil Exner Chrysler, Dodge and Plymouth designs.
SOUND QUALITY: Picks up AM stations clearly and loudly around the dial without need of external antenna attachment.
CABINET CONDITION: Cabinet is original factory molded in light blue plastic. Not repainted, no touch up, not over sprayed. All original factory molded colors through and through. The contrasting blended blue grill is factory painted. Also not repainted, touched up, or over sprayed. No chips or major scratches. No hairline crack across the top peak which is often found on this model. Classic mid-century modern design in a highly desirable and rare color combo. Clear clock bezel is in excellent condition with no crack, chips, or major scratches. Top snooze button works and no internal cracks.
KNOBS: Original matching volume and tuning knobs are in excellent condition with no cracked attach posts. Original clock function knobs are matching and securely attached slightly yellowed with age. No missing silver metal knob inserts. The silver tuning knob insert is tarnished. The tuning dial works fine no slipping no sticky spots. Back clock dimmer light switch works.
LOGO: No missing logos.
DIAL LIGHT: Clock dial light is one of the few manufacturer models with an always on clock light. Uses a neon gas bulb that never needs replacing. Very advanced and expensive feature back in the day. Before digital and LEDs, the bulbs would burn out so not many manufacturers had lighted clock dials.
CLOCK: Clock works and keeps accurate time. Clock motor is silent no humming no buzzing no ticking noises. Buzzer alarm works. Wake to radio and radio with buzzer. Sleep timer side arm works. Top snooze button works. Front clock face panel is clean black no smudges no fading no oxidation trails.
INTERNAL ELECTRONICS: All paper and wax capacitors have been replaced with modern equivalents so this radio has another 50+ years or more of playing time! The tubes are working fine. All out-of-spec resistors have been replaced with modern correct value and voltage equivalents. There is no loud or pervasive hum. There is no loud or pervasive static between stations. The set has been aligned according to factory specifications. All wiring has been thoroughly checked for possible bridging and weak solder connection. The radio has been thoroughly cleaned and inspected.
POWER CORD: Original power cord and safety polarized plug are in excellent working condition. No breaks, no splits, no repair with electrical tape, or other. No exposed wiring.
BACKING BOARD: Color matching backing board is in excellent condition with no cracks, rips, or stains. Factory printing is readable. No missing stickers.
PROVENANCE: Previous owner identity is not known. Was gently used, lovingly displayed, or stored in a dry cool environment for a long period of time. No evidence of prolonged exposure to moisture, smoking, cooking grease, pets or thick carpet.
FACTORY LABELS AND STICKERS: No missing bottom factory labels. Labels are intact and readable.
