Taupe Ivory 1958 General Electric Model C-405B Vacuum Tube AM Radio Mid Century Looker and Player!
DESCRIPTION: Tabletop vacuum tube AM radio alarm manufactured by General Electric GE in 1958 timeframe in excellent+ working and physical condition.
SOUND QUALITY: Picks up AM stations clearly and loudly up and down the dial without need of external antenna attachment.
CABINET CONDITION: This radio is in excellent condition with no cracks, splits, or missing plastic. No crack on top. All original factory molded colors. No modifications, repaints, or repairs to cabinet. None needed. This radio is over 60 years old! The front clock function lettering is mostly rubbed off. Clear clock cover is not cracked or chipped which is usually the case. Clock metal face is original black no rust no pitting no oxidation trails. Numbers are clear and readable.
KNOBS: The knobs are in excellent condition and securely attached. The tuning dial works fine and smooth no slipping no crackling. The tuning knob attach post is one piece. Often, these knobs break off over the years. No dial light not designed with one. But one can be added for an extra charge.
INTERNAL ELECTRONICS: All paper and wax capacitors have been replaced with modern equivalents so this radio has another 50+ years or more of playing time! The tubes are working fine. All out-of-spec resistors have been replaced with modern correct value and voltage equivalents. There is no loud or pervasive hum. There is no loud or pervasive static between stations unless you operate near modern megahertz devices. Both Intermediate Frequency Transformers (IFTs) have been rebuilt to ensure static-free performance. The set has been aligned according to factory specifications. The radio has been thoroughly cleaned and inspected. All wiring has been thoroughly checked for possible bridging and weak solder connection.
CLOCK: The clock works quietly and keeps accurate time. The alarm works. The buzzer works. The clock and alarm set function work. Clock motor is silent no humming no buzzing no ticking noises. Alarm and clock set function works and goes off at the correct set times. Buzzer alarm works. Wake to radio or radio with buzzer. Sleep timer works.
POWER CORD: The power cord and plug are good original working condition with no cracks, or splits. No exposed wiring. Bottom factory labels are missing.
BACKING BOARD: Not applicable. No backing board.
FACTORY LABELS: No missing bottom factory labels. Intact in excellent readable coindition.
PROVENANCE: Previous owner identity is not known. Was gently used then stored in a dry cool environment for a long period of time. No evidence of prolonged exposure to moisture, cooking grease, pets or carpet.
COLOR: Ivory front and taupe back.
