Brush Green and Gold Cloth AM/FM 1954 Zenith Model R724 Vacuum Tube Radio Sounds Spectacular!
DESCRIPTION: If audio quality and AM and FM is what you're after, look no further! Table top vacuum tube AM and FM radio manufactured by Zenith in 1953-1955 time frame. If you went into a radio shop blind folded and sked to listen to all the radios, this is the one you would pick based on sound quality.
SOUND QUALITY: Picks up AM and FM stations clearly and loudly around the dial without need of external antenna attachment. AM and FM reception is equally loud on both bands. The station frequency selectivity and sensitivity is excellent.
CABINET CONDITION: Cabinet is original molded Bakelite in factory painted green with golden speaker cloth. No chips or major scratches or missing pieces. There are small paint dings throughout. No cracks, no chips, no major scratches on cabinet. The front chrome decorative ring is in excellent condition. The cloth is in good condition considering age, some pulls, few minor tears, no rips or major damage. The chrome trim surround is in excellent condition with very little rub off, usually the chrome trim paint is rubbed off after the years. Has solid functional ivory plastic handle on top with gold colored metal mounts. Usually this model comes with handle with green caning ribbon.
KNOBS: Original volume and tuning knobs are matching and securely attached with no cracks.
LOGO: No missing logos. Zenith raised painted lettering throughout are all in excellent condition with very little rub off. The Zenith center crown logo is in fair tarnished condition but not missing any crown points.
DIAL LIGHT: Small power light indoicator works and lights red.
CLOCK: no clock
INTERNAL ELECTRONICS: All paper and wax capacitors have been replaced with modern equivalents so this radio has another 50+ years or more of playing time! The tubes are working fine. All out-of-spec resistors have been replaced with modern correct value and voltage equivalents. There is no loud or pervasive hum. There is no loud or pervasive static between stations. The set AM and FM has been aligned according to factory specifications. All wiring has been thoroughly checked for possible bridging and weak solder connection. The radio has been thoroughly cleaned and inspected.
POWER CORD: Original power cord and plug are in excellent working condition slightly hardened with age. No breaks, no splits, no repair with electrical tape, or other. No exposed wiring.
BACKING BOARD: Original factory backing board is in good condition. Clear readable factory printing.
FACTORY LABELS AND STICKERS: Original bottom factory label is damaged and missing parts.
