DESCRIPTION: These console style tabletop clock radios are an exceedingly rare design. Tabletop Tube AM radio manufactured by Sylvania in 1960 in excellent working condition. Cabinet is original factory painted metallic burgundy mist color. Metallic paints were expensive and innovative at the time this radio was manufactured so it's remarkable to find it on a clock radio. The front pink grill is factory molded in pink. No cracks, no repaints or exterior repairs. None needed. A few small ships at the corners but nothing major. The radio is in excellent original condition with signs of normal but minor wear. The front top dashboard gold pinstriping is in excellent intact condition. Often, the gold pinstriping gets worn off or becomes severly oxidized over time. This one has very minor rub off and oxidation. What a treasure. Knobs are original and securely attached. This radio is almost 60 years old! No dial light. Not designed with one. The clock face features "Panelescent Dial" which is supposed to illuminate in the dark. Given the lifespan of phosphorescent coatings, I would assume the clock face does not glow any more. I have not tested in the dark. No missing ink, smudges, or rub-off on dial lettering. The tuning dial works fine. The power cable is securely attached. All paper and wax capacitors have been replaced with modern equivalents so this radio has another 50+ years or more of playing time! The tubes are working fine. The clock works and keep accurate time for a mechanical analog design. The alarm works. The buzzer works. The clock and alarm set function work. All out-of-spec resistors have been replaced with modern correct value and voltage equivalents. There is no loud or pervasive hum. There is no loud or pervasive static between stations. The set has been aligned according to factory specifications. The power cord and plug are good original working condition with no cracks, or splits. No exposed wiring. The radio has been thoroughly cleaned and inspected. All wiring has been thoroughly checked for possible bridging and weak solder connection. Comes from non-smoking, mature, clean professional environment no pets. When this radio was new, tailfins were all the rage!
