Solid Wood 1942 Philco Model 42-PT-96 Vacuum Tube AM Radio Works Great!
DESCRIPTION: Tabletop vacuum tube AM radio manufactured by Philco in the 1942 time fame in excellent working and physical condition.
CABINET CONDITION: Cabinet is original solid wood. Not as heavy as it sounds. No cracks, chips or major scratches or missing pieces. Not veneered. Not repainted, no touch up, no over spray. No scratches or separated seams. Original factory fabric grill is in excellent condition with no dents or dings no rust. Clear tuning window is not cracked, no chips, no micro-inclusions, no flaking numbers. Looks like this wood cabinet would have been varnished or clear coated at the factory, but has since been removed or maybe did not have clear coat.
WORKING CONDITION: Picks up AM stations clearly and loudly up and down the dial without need of external antenna attachment.
LOGO: No logos.
KNOBS: Factory original matching volume and tuning knobs are in excellent condition.
LETTERING: No missing ink, smudges, or rub-off on tuning dial numbering. The tuning dial works fine no slipping or sticky spots.
DIAL LIGHT: Dial light lights up brightly whenever the radio is on.
SOUND QUALITY: There is no loud or pervasive hum. There is no loud or pervasive static between stations unless you operate near modern megahertz devices. The set has been aligned according to factory specifications.
INTERNAL ELECTRONICS: All out of tolerance paper and wax capacitors have been replaced with modern equivalents so this radio has another 50+ years or more of playing time! The tubes are working fine. All out-of-spec resistors have been replaced with modern correct value and voltage equivalents. The radio has been thoroughly cleaned and inspected. All wiring has been thoroughly checked for possible bridging and weak solder connection.
BACKING BOARD: None.
POWER CORD: The new replacement power cord and polarized plug are in excellent original working condition with no cracks, or splits. No exposed wiring.
FACTORY LABEL: No missing factory labels.
PROVENANCE: Previous owner identity is not known. Was gently used then stored in a dry cool environment for a long period of time. No evidence of prolonged exposure to cigarette smoking, moisture, or pets. Was probably used in or near the kitchen for much of its life.
