Alabaster Ivory Bakelite Post War 1940 Firestone Air Chief "Diplomat" Model S-7403-2 AM Vacuum Tube Radio Works Great! Excellent Condition!
DESCRIPTION: This model has a post war look to it just before 50s modernist came to the fore. Styling retains some of the pre-war deco look but not as bulbous and bathtub looking in its proportions. And not angular like MCM with straight edges, colors, and texture juxtapositions. Like from a period in-between the old and the new. Picks up AM stations clearly and loudly up and down the dial without need of external antenna attachment. Cabinet is in excellent condition. No cracks, chips or major scratches. The factory painted Bakelite shows minor paint dings throughout. Not repainted. Not touched up. No over spray. This radio is over 70 years old! All original everything. The knobs are in excellent condition no cracks securely attached. The clear glass dial face has no cracks or scratches and is clear as an autumn day! No missing ink, smudges, or rub-off on clock dial lettering. Maroon red tuning dial face is attractive with inner circle tuning pointer wheel. The tuning dial works fine and smooth no slipping. All paper and wax capacitors have been replaced with modern equivalents so this radio has another 50+ years or more of playing time! Replacement LED dial lights lights up brightly and never needs replacing. The tubes are working fine. All out-of-spec resistors have been replaced with modern correct value and voltage equivalents. There is no loud or pervasive hum. There is no loud or pervasive static between stations unless you operate near modern megahertz devices. The set has been aligned according to factory specifications. Original backing board is in excellent condition with crisp square corners. Bottom manufacturer label is intact with normal age yellowing. The replacement power cord and safety polarized plug are in excellent working condition with no cracks, or splits. No exposed wiring. The radio has been thoroughly cleaned and inspected. All wiring has been thoroughly checked for possible bridging and weak solder connection.
