Cranberry Red Burgundy 1951 Emerson 657B AM Vacuum Tube Portable Radio Sounds Great!

DESCRIPTION: Beautiful portable tabletop tube AM radio manufactured by Emerson in 1951 in excellent working and very good physical condition. 

SOUND QUALITY: Picks up AM stations clearly and loudly around the dial without need of external antenna attachment. 

CABINET CONDITION: Cabinet is original factory molded cranberry red burgundy color plastic. There are hairline cracks on back cover and front lower right corner. One of the bottom hinges is cracked but repaired. There is a section left of tuning window that is chipped. There is a patch on the left side of the tuning window where the printed graphics behind have flaked off. All original factory molded colors through and through. Not repainted. No over spray. Not touched up. Original leather handle is in good worn condition but functional. 

KNOBS: Original volume and tuning knobs are securely attached no cracks, no broken attachment posts, no missing center metal inserts. 

LOGO: No missing logos. Emerson metal script logo is intact no chipped letters.

DIAL LIGHT: No tuning dial light. Not designed with one. But can be added for an extra charge.

INTERNAL ELECTRONICS: All paper and wax capacitors have been replaced with modern equivalents so this radio has another 50+ years or more of playing time! The tubes are working fine. All out-of-spec resistors have been replaced with modern correct value and voltage equivalents. There is no loud or pervasive hum. There is no loud or pervasive static between stations. The set has been aligned according to factory specifications. All wiring has been thoroughly checked for possible bridging and weak solder connection. The radio has been thoroughly cleaned and inspected.

POWER CORD: The new replacement power cord and plug are in excellent condition with no cracks, or splits.

BACKING BOARD: Original factory back cover snaps shut securely.

BATTERY: This radio can be operated using battery or standard household power outlet. Original batteries are no longer readily available. Some hobbyists have been known to jury rig their own battery packs using found leftover packages stiffed with new fresh batteries.

FACTORY LABELS AND STICKERS: Not sure if original labels are missing. There are no labels inside or out.

PROVENANCE: Previous owner identity is not known. Was gently used then stored in a dry cool environment for a long period of time. No evidence of prolonged exposure to cigarette smoking, moisture, or pets.
