DESCRIPTION: If your family had the means to buy this radio in 1937, you were doing okay. To have been maintained throughout the years and still be in this good condition and working, your children and your children's children probably aren't bad off either. Among wood radios that still remain to this day from the period, this would be one of the lucky ones. A 1%er. An anomaly. Outlier. Vintage wood tabletop tube AM radio manufactured by Crosley in 1937 timeframe. It's called the "Fiver" because it has 5 tubes. Has been lovingly refinished with clear enamel and polished. Piano mirror thick glossy finish, like 3D. Simple curvaceous design that bespeaks modern elegance as opposed to ornate antiquity. Picks up AM stations clearly and loudly up and down the dial with external antenna attachment. Any long wire will do. Some wire will be included. Wood cabinet is in excellent structural condition. No reglue. No non-original internal repair blocks to hold things together. None needed. No cracks, dents, or dings. No peeling veneer. No veneer repairs. None needed. Original grill cloth is in very good condition with no rips, fraying, or missing material. Original convex front dial glass is clear, no cracks, chips or scratches. No yellowing. The tuning dial with broadcast and shortwave scale is a really easy on eyes. No smudges, no flaking, no rub off lettering or numbering. Original knobs are in excellent condition and securely attached. The tuning dial works fine and smooth no slipping. The tuning pointer is in excellent condition. Tuning dial light works and lights brightly! Two little front brass flowery attachment screws are nicely bronzed with age. All paper and wax capacitors have been replaced with modern equivalents so this radio has another 50+ years or more of playing time! The tubes are working fine. All out-of-spec resistors have been replaced with modern correct value and voltage equivalents. There is no loud or pervasive hum. Speaker is original no punctures no rips. Sound is loud and voluminous. There is no loud or pervasive static between stations unless you operate near modern megahertz devices. The set has been aligned according to factory specifications. Backing board is missing or maybe there never was one. The replacement power cord and polarized plug are new and in excellent working condition with no cracks, or splits. No exposed wiring. Missing bottom factory label or maybe it never had any. The radio has been thoroughly cleaned and inspected. All wiring has been thoroughly checked for possible bridging and weak solder connection. Comes from non-smoking, mature, clean professional environment.
