Grand Daddy Red Mahogany Wood 1939 Firestone S-7398-3 Vacuum Tube AM Shortwave Radio Extremely Rare Woody Sounds Beautiful!
DESCRIPTION: This is the grand daddy of pre-war wood radios from Firestone. Large commanding presence and sound! Tabletop tube AM shortwave radio manufactured by Firestone Tire & Rubber Company in 1939 time frame in excellent+ working and physical condition. Picks up AM and shortwave stations clearly and loudly up and down the dial without an external antenna attachment. Cabinet is in excellent condition considering its age. Original factory finish has no worn through spots. Original factory grill cloth. Small section by lower right hand bottom where fabric is a little chafed. Age checking throughout makes strong vintage heirloom statement. Couple dark patches on top but not bad. No cracks or chips and split or peeling veneering. This radio is almost 80 years old! Original 'Firestone' logo label is immaculate. The original knobs are in excellent condition and securely attached. No missing knobs. The lettering for each knob is clear legible not worn off. The clear plastic dial face is in very good condition securely attached some warping no cracks. The brass colored metal surround is awesome. The tuning dial face is beautiful. The tuning dial works fine and smooth no slipping. All paper and wax capacitors have been replaced with modern equivalents so this radio has another 50+ years or more of playing time! Tone knob says, "Bass," "Music," and "Speech" and works. Cute. Dial light works lights up brightly. All out-of-spec resistors have been replaced with modern correct value and voltage equivalents. There is no loud or pervasive hum. There is no loud or pervasive static between stations unless you operate near modern megahertz devices. The set has been aligned according to factory specifications. Backing board is in excellent condition with crisp square corners. The brand new replacement power cord and safety polarized plug are excellent working condition with no cracks, or splits. No exposed wiring. The radio has been thoroughly cleaned and inspected. All wiring has been thoroughly checked for possible bridging and weak solder connection. Comes from non-smoking, mature, clean professional environment.
