Almond Ivory 1959 General Electric Model C418A Vacuum Tube AM Clock Radio So Sweet! Working Clock Light!
DESCRIPTION: Tabletop tube AM clock radio alarm manufactured by General Electric in 1959 time frame in excellent working and physical condition. Very popular late fifties step design in original factory molded almond ivory color. This model series was also available in pink, turquoise (not the same color as this one), ivory, burgundy, beige pink, and nutmeg beige tan. This is one of the only GE's of this model series I've come across with the push button clock dial light that actually still works! The tuning bezel is clear and transparent not yellowing no cracks, chips, or major scratches.
SOUND QUALITY: Picks up AM stations clearly and loudly up and down the dial without need of external antenna attachment.
CABINET CONDITION: Cabinet is in excellent condition with no cracks, splits, or missing plastic. The back top heat vanes are slightly yellowed from heat.
KNOIBS: The original matching metal knobs are in excellent condition.There are a few large cracks across the surface of the bezel.
CLOCK LIGHT: The clock knob is working.
TUNING DIAL LIGHT: Replacement LED tuning light works and lights brightly and lasts longer than incandescent bulbs! Light follows the tuning pointer across the dial. Neat!
LOGO: No missing logos. Front black factory painted raised General Electric logo is mostly rubbed off.
CLOCK: The clock works quietly and keeps accurate time. The alarm works. The buzzer works. The clock and alarm set function work. Clock motor is silent no humming no buzzing no ticking noises. Alarm and clock set function works and goes off at the correct set times. Buzzer alarm works. Wake to radio or radio with buzzer. Sleep timer works. Snooze button works.
INTERNAL ELECTRONICS: All paper and wax capacitors have been replaced with modern equivalents so this radio has another 50+ years or more of playing time! The tubes are working fine. Both Intermediate Frequency Transformers (IFTs) have been rebuilt to ensure static-free performance. All out-of-spec resistors have been replaced with modern correct value and voltage equivalents. There is no loud or pervasive hum. There is no loud or pervasive static between stations. The set has been aligned according to factory specifications. All wiring has been thoroughly checked for possible bridging and weak solder connection. The radio has been thoroughly cleaned and inspected.
POWER CORD: Brand new replacement power cord and safety polarized plug are in excellent working condition with no cracks, or splits.
BACKING BOARD: Color matching back cover is original in excellent condition. No cracks, no chips, no major scratches. No melted heat vents.
FACTORY LABELS AND STICKERS: Bottom factory labels are mostly missing.
PROVENANCE: Previous owner identity is not known. Was gently used then stored in a dry cool environment for a long period of time. No evidence of prolonged exposure to moisture, cooking grease, pets or carpet.
