Big Daddy Wood 1939 Lafayette Unknown Model AM Shortwave Vacuum Tube Radio Super Performer! Excellent Shape!
DESCRIPTION: Tabletop tube AM shortwave radio manufactured by Lafayette in the late 30s time frame in excellent working and physical condition. This radio is original factory wood cabinet. Not repainted no overspray no touch up. No re-veneer. None needed. A small piece of veneer on top back left corner peeled off and has been patched. All original factory finish. No wood cabinet cracks, chips, or major scratches anywhere on the cabinet. Knobs are original wood and securely attached. Some of the printing on the knobs is still legible! Lafayette decal is present, mostly there. The pretty colorful tuning dial glass is in excellent condition with no cracks no chips, clear readable no flaking. No rub off of dial numbering. Wood tuning window surround trim is intact no missing pieces securely attached. Trim is in excellent condition. Original grill fabric is in excellent condition with no rips, no stains, and no separated edges. Tuning indicator is original, securely attached and excellent condition. The tuning dial works fine. No slipping no sticky spots. Best part, green tuning eye works! Lights up green and responds to receiving signal strength! This radio is over 80 years old! On off switch turns on with a definite click. Volume works and is not scratchy. Loud as can be and clear sounding! Tone knob works with good variation between high and low tone. Two dial lights work and light up brightly. The replacement power cable and polarized plug is in excellent working condition. No missing factory labels. Original factory backing board is in excellent condition. All paper and wax capacitors have been replaced with modern equivalents so this radio has another 50+ years or more of playing time! Picks up AM and shortwave stations up and down the dial with external antenna. Any long hank of wire will do. I was not able to pick up any stations on the Police band. The tubes are working fine. All out-of-spec resistors have been replaced with modern correct value and voltage equivalents. There is no loud or pervasive hum. There is no loud or pervasive static between stations. The set has been aligned according to factory specifications. The radio has been thoroughly cleaned and inspected. All wiring has been thoroughly checked for possible bridging and weak solder connection. Comes from non-smoking, mature, clean professional environment.
