Tweed covered 1947 General Television Model 1A5 AM Vacuum Tube Radio Totally Restored and Sounds Wonderful!
DESCRIPTION: Tabletop tube AM radio manufactured by General Television in 1947 time frame in excellent working and physical condition.
CABINET CONDITION: This is an original factory tweed covered wood cabinet. No cracks, chips, splits, or major scratches. No rips, tears, separated seams. No major stains, burns, holes in factory tweed. Original ivory plastic handle, grill cover piece, tuning surround trim pieces are original and excellent condition with no cracks, no chips, no extreme warping.
SOUND QUALITY: Picks up AM stations clearly and loudly up and down the dial without need of external antenna attachment.
KNOBS: Knobs are original, matching, and securely attached. All the dial numbering is crisp and clear. Tuning back panel is in excellent. No missing ink, smudges, or rub-off on dial lettering. The tuning dial works fine and is securely attached. The original red Saturn tuning pointer is in excellent condition.
LABELS: No missing factory labels or stickers.
DIAL LIGHT: Dial light works and lights brightly.
INTERNAL ELECTRONICS: All paper and wax capacitors have been replaced with modern equivalents so this radio has another 50+ years or more of playing time! The tubes are working fine. Both Intermediate Frequency Transformers (IFTs) have been rebuilt to ensure static-free performance. All out-of-spec resistors have been replaced with modern correct value and voltage equivalents. Has original built in metal screen heat shield. There is no loud or pervasive hum. There is no loud or pervasive static between stations. The set has been aligned according to factory specifications. All wiring has been thoroughly checked for possible bridging and weak solder connection. The radio has been thoroughly cleaned and inspected.
POWER CORD: The brand new replacement power cord and safety polarized plug are in excellent condition with no cracks, or splits. No exposed wiring.
BACKING BOARD: Original backing board is in excellent condition. No rips, tears, cracks. One fatigued corner. All four original t-pins.
PROVENANCE: Previous owner identity is not known. Was gently used then stored in a dry cool environment for a long period of time. No evidence of prolonged exposure to cigarette smoking, moisture, or pets. Was probably used in or near the kitchen for much of its life.
