April Green 1946 Madison Model 940 AM Vacuum Tube Clock Radio Rare Excellent Condition Sounds Great!
DESCRIPTION: Table top clock radio manufactured by Madison in 1946. Madison is a upscale quality boutique-y radio manufacturer among radio manufacturers. Not much information exists on this brand originally headquartered out of New York City under the name Datom Industries.
SOUND QUALITY: Picks up AM stations clearly and loudly around the dial without need of external antenna attachment.
CABINET CONDITION: Cabinet is in excellent condition no chips no major scratches. There is a repaired hairline hear crack on top that has been reinforced from underneath. Original factory molded pastel light green color urea plastic. Urea plastic is a higher quality polycarbonate composition plastic that is stronger, heat resistant, and retains color longer without fading.` Not repainted. No over spray. Not touched up. No chips or major scratches or missing pieces. Clock cover is glass and in excellent condition with no cracks or chips. Gold metal square trim surround piece is in excellent condition with no tarnish, dents or dings. No gold rub off. Securely attached.
KNOBS: Original matching knobs are in excellent condition and securely attached. Little clock knobs are all original, matching and securely attached which is rare. These often go missing over the years.
LOGO: Original Madison logo is in excellent condition with no chipped letters no paint rub off.
DIAL LIGHT: No dial light not designed with one. But can be added for an extra charge.
SPEAKER: 4" speaker
CLOCK: Clock works and keeps accurate time. Clock motor is silent no humming no buzzing no ticking noises. Alarm and clock set function works and goes off at the correct set times. No buzzer. Wake to radio only. Clock motor has faint whirring sound.
INTERNAL ELECTRONICS: All paper and wax capacitors have been replaced with modern equivalents so this radio has another 50+ years or more of playing time! The tubes are working fine. All out-of-spec resistors have been replaced with modern correct value and voltage equivalents. There is no loud or pervasive hum. There is no loud or pervasive static between stations. The set has been aligned according to factory specifications. All wiring has been thoroughly checked for possible bridging and weak solder connection. The radio has been thoroughly cleaned and inspected.
POWER CORD: The new replacement power cord and plug are in excellent condition with no cracks, or splits. No exposed wiring.
PROVENANCE: Previous owner identity is not known. Was gently used then stored in a dry cool environment for a long period of time. No evidence of prolonged exposure to cigarette smoking, moisture, or pets.
