Sherwood Green Mid Century Vintage 1959 Sylvania Model 598 AM Vacuum Tube Alarm Clock Radio Rare Working Panelescent Clock Display! Excellent Condition!
DESCRIPTION: Tabletop tube AM clock radio alarm manufactured by Sylvania in 1959 in excellent physical and working condition. Very rare working Panelscent clock light display. Sylvania was the only manufacturer in the mid-fifties to make an attempt at a lighted clock display using their proprietary phosphorescent clock panel with dimmer.
SOUND QUALITY: Picks up AM stations clearly and loudly around the dial without need of external antenna attachment.
CABINET CONDITION: Cabinet is original factory molded green plastic. All original molded factory colors through and through! Not repainted. No over spray. Not touched up. No cracks, no chips or major scratches or missing pieces. Cabinet is glossy. Clock glass cover is in excellent condition. Factory printing is in excellent conditon with no flaking letters or numbers. No cracks, chips pn clock glass and securely attached. Gold color metal clock surround has some tarnish.
KNOBS: Original factory matching green color volume and tuning knobs are securelyattached with perfect condition metal inserts and no broken attach posts. Three little clock function knobs are original matching in excellent condition. These knobs often go missing over the years.
LOGO: Sylvania raised painted logo is excellent condition. Gold paint is mostly rubbed off.
DIAL LIGHT: Rare proprietary phosphorescent glow clock display works. Dimmer switch in back works. Glows green.
CLOCK: Clock works and keeps accurate time. Clock motor is silent no humming no buzzing no ticking noises. Alarm and clock set function works and goes off at the correct set times. Wake to radio or radio and buzzer. Sleep timer works. Clock arms are original white, not tarnished or rusted, securely attached.
INTERNAL ELECTRONICS: All paper and wax capacitors have been replaced with modern equivalents so this radio has another 50+ years or more of playing time! The tubes are working fine. All out-of-spec resistors have been replaced with modern correct value and voltage equivalents. Both Intermediate Frequency Transformers (IFTs) have been rebuilt to ensure static-free performance. There is no loud or pervasive hum. There is no loud or pervasive static between stations. The set has been aligned according to factory specifications. All wiring has been thoroughly checked for possible bridging and weak solder connection. The radio has been thoroughly cleaned and inspected.
POWER CORD: The original power cord and plug are in excellent condition with no cracks, or splits. No exposed wiring.
BACKING BOARD: Backing board is in excellent condition with no cracks, chips and securely mounted. Factory printing on back is faded. Not readable.
FACTORY LABELS AND STICKERS: No missing factory labels. .
PROVENANCE: Previous owner identity is not known. Was gently used then stored in a dry cool environment for a long period of time. No evidence of prolonged exposure to cigarette smoking, moisture, or pets.
