Mauve Lavender Bakelite 1948 Telechron Model 8H67 Vacuum Tube AM Radio Alarm Clock Excellent Condition! Sounds Great! Piece Of History!
DESCRIPTION: Tabletop vacuum tube radio manufactured by Telechron in 1948 time frame in excellent physical and working condition. This along with Model 8H59 were the first clock radios of the twentieth century. Before this radios were just radios no clocks, and alarm clocks were just buzzer or bell alarms no radio. General Electric liked the clock radio design so much they bought Telechron Company. GE Telechron clock, alarm, and calendar various movements became the industry standard until digital in the 80s.
CABINET CONDITION: Cabinet is original factory painted Bakelite. Hard to describe the color. It is a cross between grey and lavender. Mauve. Original factory painted color. Not repainted, not touched up o over sprayed. Has small paints dings throughout due to age and normal wear and tear not abuse or neglect. Original glass clock cover is in excellent condition with no cracks. Gold painted metal surround is tarnished and greening but no dents or dings and securely attached. Clock display back panel is in excellent condition with no rust or water stains. Overall, nice contrasting and classic colorway and combination.
SOUND QUALITY: Picks up AM stations clearly and loudly around the dial without an external antenna.
KNOBS: Original factory matching tuning and volume dials work fine. Securely attached. Original matching brown plastic clock function knobs.
DIAL LIGHT: No dial light. Not designed with one but can be added for an extra charge.
CLOCK: Clock works and keeps accurate time. Clock motor is silent no humming no buzzing no ticking noises. Alarm set function works. Alarm works. Clock set works.
LOGOS: Logo on the dial face is crisp and clear.
INTERNAL ELECTRONICS: All out of spec capacitors have been replaced with modern equivalents so this radio has another 50+ years or more of playing time! The tubes are working fine. All out-of-spec resistors have been replaced with modern correct value and voltage equivalents. The radio has been thoroughly cleaned and inspected. All wiring has been thoroughly checked for possible bridging and weak solder connection.
POWER CORD: New replacement power cord and safety polarized plug are in excellent condition with no cracks, or splits or electrical tape repair.
BACKING BOARD: Original backing board intact excellent condition.
FACTORY LABELS: No missing bottom factory labels
PROVENANCE: Previous owner identity is not known. Has been in our reserve inventories for a long time. Was gently used then stored in a dry cool environment for a long period of time. No evidence of prolonged exposure to cigarette smoking, moisture, cooking grease, pets or carpet.
