Artisan Crafted Wood 1941 Emerson Model EG-355 Vacuum Tube AM Shortwave Radio Sounds Great! Excellent Condition!
DESCRIPTION: All wood tabletop vacuum tube AM shortwave radio from an Emerson manufactured in 1941 time frame in excellent working and physical condition.
SOUND QUALITY: Picks up AM and shortwave stations clearly and loudly up and down the dial without need of external antenna attachment.
CABINET CONDITION: Cabinet is original factory artisan constructed wood cabinet. Factory original finish is glossy, thin in areas, age checked throughout. Front wood grill slats are all original not cracked or chipped, original finish is spotty. No wood construction cracks, chips, or major scratches. There is slight veneer peeling on top back, right and left sides. There are some veneer cracks on front bottom left and right sides.
KNOBS: Knobs are original, matching, and securely attached. Tuning dial works across the dial with no slipping or sticky spots.
LOGO: No missing logos. Volume On/Off decal is missing. Tone and Tuning decals are intact. Shortwave red knob in back looks original could be a replacement.
DIAL LIGHT: Dial light works and lights brightly. Replaced with modern LED bulb for long life.
TUNING EYE: Works as designed. Glows bright green with strong reception.
CLOCK: no clock
INTERNAL ELECTRONICS: All paper and wax capacitors have been replaced with modern equivalents so this radio has another 50+ years or more of playing time! The tubes are working fine. All out-of-spec resistors have been replaced with modern correct value and voltage equivalents. There is no loud or pervasive hum. There is no loud or pervasive static between stations. The set has been aligned according to factory specifications. All wiring has been thoroughly checked for possible bridging and weak solder connection. The radio has been thoroughly cleaned and inspected.
POWER CORD: Brand new replacement power cord and safety polarized plug are in excellent condition with no cracks, or splits. No exposed wiring.
BACKING BOARD: No backing board. Antenna loop is internal. Antenna loop fiberboard has been reinforced at the attach corners.
FACTORY LABELS AND STICKERS: No missing factory stickers or labels.
PROVENANCE: Probably owned by the same family throughout its life. This radio was donated to RRF by a work colleague with the hope that it would be repaired and restored to working conation. Was gently used, lovingly displayed, or stored in a dry cool environment for a long period of time. No evidence of prolonged exposure to moisture, smoking, cooking grease, pets or thick carpet.
