Artisan Handcrafted Wood 1938 Crosley Model 718-B AM Shortwave Vacuum Tube Radio Excellent Condition!
DESCRIPTION: Tabletop vacuum tube radio manufactured by Crosley in the 1938 time frame; solid physical shape and fair working condition.
CABINET CONDITION: Cabinet is original artisan crafted wood cabinet. No cracks. No veneer chips or major scratches. The finish is factory original on top, front, and left side, thinning on left side, age-checked. Not refinished. No touch up. Not over sprayed. There are few cigar burns on top. No grill cloth did not come with it. The right side contoured grill section has been over sprayed with color matching brown stain to match the original color. Front tuning clear glass window is original with no cracks or chips, with crisp clear graphics, not faded, no flaking numbers. Tuning window plastic escutcheon is in very good condition, no cracks, chips, slightly warped.
SOUND QUALITY: Picks up AM stations clearly and loudly up and down the dial with attached wire antenna.
KNOBS: All original factory matching knobs; volume, tuning, and band selector no cracks and securely attached. Push buttons work as designed, although the two end buttons have trouble resetting to original position because of the escutcheon warpage.
PUSH BUTTONS: Original factory matching fice (5) push buttons are in working excellent condition. Not cracked, chipped or popping off.
DIAL LIGHT: dial light has been replaced with brand new No 47 pilot bulb.
CLOCK: No clock
LOGOS: No missing logos
INTERNAL ELECTRONICS: All out of spec capacitors have been replaced with modern equivalents so this radio has another 50+ years or more of playing time! The tubes are working fine. All out-of-spec dog bone resistors have been replaced with modern correct value and voltage equivalents. There is no loud or pervasive hum. The set has been aligned according to factory specifications. The radio has been thoroughly cleaned and inspected. All wiring has been thoroughly checked for possible bridging and weak solder connection.
POWER CORD: The brand new replacement power cord and safety polarized plug are in excellent condition with no cracks, or splits. No exposed wiring.
BACKING BOARD: No backing board
FACTORY LABELS: No missing labels. Original factory tube layout diagram is intact mounted internally
PROVENANCE: Previous owner was an avid collector in Rhode Island. See story here. Has been in our reserve inventories for a long time. Was gently used then stored in a dry cool environment for a long period of time. No evidence of prolonged exposure to cigarette smoking, moisture, cooking grease, pets or carpet.
