Rosewood 1953 Philco Model 53-958 Rare FM & AM Vacuum Tube Radio Incredible Sound Presence!
DESCRIPTION: Rare early fifties AM FM Philco. You don't see alot of these larger AM FM radios from the fifties much less from Philco. And, in a solid wood cabinet, makes this a rare find. Solid wood cabinet with a rosewood looking veneer. No cracks, chips, or major scratches anywhere. There is a patch on top towards the back where the finish is worn through. Factory original wood cabinet and finish. Not repainted or refinished. No over spray touch-up. Philco front logo is in immaculate condition. Factory original grill cloth is clean, no rips, no stains, no smells. Factory dial glass on both AM and FM sides are clear no cracks no flaking of numbers. Like all designs of this era, you need a FM external antenna to better receive stations which is included. AM reception is perfect even without antenna. The sound is amazing! Fills the entire room and the whole house if volume is turned up! All the knobs are securely attached. This radio is 65 years old! All the dial numbering and lettering is crisp and clear. No missing numbering, dots or dashes, or anything. The tuning and volume dials work fine. AM and FM tuning pointer moves up and down in unison no slipping no sticky spots. No slipping. The unit powers on and off with a definite click. Dial light lights up AM or FM on either side depending which broadcast band is selected. Flip AM to FM back to AM and lights switch from one side to the other! Neato. All out of spec capacitors have been replaced with modern equivalents so this radio has another 50+ years or more of playing time! The tubes are working fine. Bottom factory labels are intact. All out-of-spec resistors have been replaced with modern correct value and voltage equivalents. The brand new replacement power cord and safety polarized plug is in excellent working condition with no cracks, or splits or electrical tape repair. No exposed wiring. The radio has been thoroughly cleaned and inspected. All wiring has been thoroughly checked for possible bridging and weak solder connection. Original factory high quality wood backing board is intact and securely attached with all original factory screws. Comes from non-smoking, mature, clean professional environment.
