Chestnut Mantle 1954 Firestone 4-A-128 Tube AM Clock Radio Extremely Rare Woody!
DESCRIPTION: Every once in a while, history throws you a little surprise. In the world of electronics, it doesn't get more unexpected than Firestone Tire Company of of Akron Ohio making clock radios. Yessir - need new tires? How about a clock radio to go with that? Why not. What's more, this one is made of chestnut color hard wood! Not bulky like tombstone or cathedral radios of the period. Just big enough to sit on a mantle or bookshelf. SO beautiful! Looks like Firestone re-marketed Automatic CL-100 but most CL-100 I've seen are plastic. So, the wood CL-100 from Automatic sold to Firestone is extremely rare. Tabletop tube AM clock radio alarm manufactured by Firestone Tire & Rubber Company in 1955 time frame in excellent+ working condition. Picks up AM stations clearly and loudly up and down the dial without an external antenna attachment. Cabinet is in immaculate condition. Painstakingly and lovingly refinished to piano mirror shine in a chestnut original stained color. No cracks or chips and split veneering. This radio is almost 65 years old! 'Firestone' logo label is brand new replacement. The knobs are in excellent condition. No missing knobs. The on/off/alarm switch knobs are securely attached. The clear dial face is in very good condition securely attached. These CL-100 square plastic covers often have chipped attachment tabs but not this one. The plastic covers attach to gold metal square frames which in turn are held securely by metal tabs that secure it to the wood frame. No rust, pitting, tarnishing of the metal attachment frames. The blue tuning and clock face plates were repainted by a previous owner. Not sure the original color but it seems blue was used on other plastic CL-100s. The tuning dial works fine and smooth no slipping. All paper and wax capacitors have been replaced with modern equivalents so this radio has another 50+ years or more of playing time! The clock works and keep accurate time for a mechanical analog design. The clock motor is silent. The alarm works. The buzzer works. The clock and alarm set function work. The tubes are working fine. Dial light works lights up brightly. All out-of-spec resistors have been replaced with modern correct value and voltage equivalents. There is no loud or pervasive hum. There is no loud or pervasive static between stations unless you operate near modern megahertz devices. The set has been aligned according to factory specifications. Backing board is in good condition with crisp square corners but split in the middle. The power cord and plug are good original working condition with no cracks, or splits. No exposed wiring. The radio has been thoroughly cleaned and inspected. All wiring has been thoroughly checked for possible bridging and weak solder connection. Comes from non-smoking, mature, clean professional environment.
