Cotton Candy Swirl 1948 Telechron Model 8H67 Vacuum Tube AM Radio Alarm Clock! Never Before Seen! Never Knew Existed!

DESCRIPTION: Tabletop vacuum tube radio manufactured by Telechron in 1948 time frame in excellent physical and  fair working condition. This along with Model 8H59 were the first clock radios of the twentieth century. Before this radios were just radios no clocks, and alarm clocks were just buzzer or bell alarms no radio. General Electric liked the clock radio design so much they bought Telechron Company. GE Telechron clock, alarm, and calendar various movements became the industry standard until digital in the 80s.

CABINET CONDITION: Cabinet is original factory molded red, white, and blue speckle marbley swirl. The molded colors are through and through! Not repainted, not touched up or over sprayed. Has two white speck dings on the front. There is a heat crack on top right side. There is a repaired hairline crack along one of the bottom left side edge.  Original glass clock cover is in excellent condition with no cracks. Gold painted metal surround is in excellent condition no rust, dents or dings and securely attached. Clock display back panel is in excellent condition with no rust or water stains.

SOUND QUALITY: Picks up AM stations clearly and loudly above 90 KHz dial without an external antenna. Lower frequencies do not come in as loudly.

KNOBS: Original factory tuning and volume dials work fine. Securely attached. Replacement matching ivory plastic clock function knobs.

DIAL LIGHT: No dial light. Not designed with one but can be added for an extra charge.

CLOCK: Clock works and keeps accurate time. Clock motor is silent no humming no buzzing no ticking noises. Alarm set function works. Alarm works. Clock set works.

LOGOS: Logo on the dial face is crisp and clear.

INTERNAL ELECTRONICS:  All out of spec capacitors have been replaced with modern equivalents so this radio has another 50+ years or more of playing time! The tubes are working fine. All out-of-spec resistors have been replaced with modern correct value and voltage equivalents. The radio has been thoroughly cleaned and inspected. All wiring has been thoroughly checked for possible bridging and weak solder connection.

POWER CORD: New replacement power cord and safety polarized plug are in excellent condition with no cracks, or splits or electrical tape repair.

BACKING BOARD: Backing board is a replacement from a different GE model in very good condition. This is not a GE 516F model radio.

FACTORY LABELS: Original bottom factory label is in excellent condition.

PROVENANCE: Previous owner identity is not known. Was gently used then stored in a dry cool environment for a long period of time. No evidence of prolonged exposure to cigarette smoking, moisture, cooking grease, pets or carpet.

We think this was one of the early samples used to appeal to the Canadian market. Eventually, this model would be offered in color choices lavender taupe and brown models. The lavender taupe model was painted. This example red, white, and blue is molded color through and through. Rare as can be. We have never seen this, nor knew its existence until now. Go find another! One-of-a-kind examples from a major manufacturer like GE are very uncommon because larger manufacturers operate on economies of scale. To see this exceptional example means GE probably manufactured this model at an expense, and probably for a special purpose.
