Boomerang Brown Bakelite 1949 Philco Model 49-501 AM Vacuum Tube Radio Jawdropper!

DESCRIPTION: This is one of the most iconic radio designs of all time! Totally original curves and contours. Looks like it's in motion and fluid at the same time. Defies description. You have to see it to appreciate it. Tabletop tube radio manufactured by Philco in the 1949 time frame in excellent+ working and physical condition. Very few come up for sale.

CABINET CONDITION: Original factory molded Bakelite cabinet is in excellent condition. No cracks no chips, no major scratches. All original factory molded colors. No repaint no touch no over spray. The factory ivory painted metal pin hole grill is in excellent condition with no dents, flaking, rust, or little flea bite paint dings.

SOUND QUALITY: Picks up AM stations clearly and loudly around the dial without external antenna attachment.

DIAL LIGHT: New dial light has been installed and lights up brightly. The entire tuning dial lights up from behind.

KNOBS: The knobs are matching brown plastic tuning knob and tuning flange is in excellent condition  and securely attached. All the dial numbering and lettering is crisp and clear. No missing numbering, dots or dashes, or anything. No smudges or yellowing. The tuning and volume dials work fine.

INTERNAL ELECTRONICS: All paper and wax capacitors have been replaced with modern equivalents so this radio has another 50+ years or more of playing time! Both Intermediate Frequency Transformers (IFTs) have been rebuilt to ensure static-free performance. The tubes are working fine. All out-of-spec resistors have been replaced with modern correct value and voltage equivalents. There is no loud or pervasive hum. There is no loud or pervasive static between stations unless you operate near modern megahertz devices. The set has been aligned according to factory specifications.  The radio has been thoroughly cleaned and inspected. All wiring has been thoroughly checked for possible bridging and weak solder connection.

POWER CORD: The brand new replacement power cord and safety polarized plug is in excellent working condition with no cracks, or splits or electrical tape repair. No exposed wiring.

BACKING BOARD: Backing board is not missing which is amazing because it's only held on by four little t-pins at the corners.

PROVENANCE: This is an item that has been in storage in our private collection for some time. Previous owner identity is not known. No evidence of prolonged exposure to cigarette smoking, moisture, or pets.
