Golden Age of Radio 1940 Emerson Model 179 Wood Vacuum Tube Radio Beauty Sounds Great Looks Like Old Shoeshine Box!
DESCRIPTION: Exceptional design wood radio. Rare and resplendent with serious old time blues and jazz vibe! Beautiful AM tabletop tube clock radio manufactured by Emerson in the 1940 time frame in excellent+ working condition. This radio looks like an old shoeshine box! No cracks, splits, abrasions anywhere on the cabinet! All original factory finish shows a lot of wear and character but not neglect or abuse. Tuning dial clear window was replaced with brand new Lucite so it's crystal clear and securely attached. Picks up AM stations clearly and loudly around the dial without need for external antenna. The replaced volume and tuning knobs are matching plastic securely attached. Original Emerson logo is in very good condition. This radio is over 75 years old! Dial light lights up brightly. All the dial numbering and lettering is crisp and clear. No missing numbering, dots or dashes, or anything. No smudges or yellowing. Built in handle on top is functional and practical. The tuning and volume dials work fine. Tuning dial rotates free with no slipping or sticky spots. The unit powers on and off with a definite click. All out of spec capacitors have been replaced with modern equivalents so this radio has another 50+ years or more of playing time! The tubes are working fine. All out-of-spec resistors have been replaced with modern correct value and voltage equivalents. The replacement power cord and plug is in excellent working condition with no cracks, or splits or electrical tape repair. No exposed wiring. Backing board is missing. No missing factory labels. The radio has been thoroughly cleaned and inspected. All wiring has been thoroughly checked for possible bridging and weak solder connection. Comes from non-smoking, mature, clean professional environment.
