Aura White Late 50s Philco Predicta Unknown Model Solid State Transistor AM Alarm Clock Radio Awesome!
DESCRIPTION: Here's another rarely seen brainchild from Philco. Predicta is one of the most iconic designs of the late fifties. It embodies American (and international) futuristic ambitions of the early space age. It is becoming extremely sought after by collectors and vintage enthusiasts. This Predicta will not be attainable for long! Tabletop battery operated solid state transitor AM clock radio alarm manufactured by Philco in late 50s time frame in excellent working and physical condition. Rare model. The clock and tewo speaker top assembly pivots up and down.
SOUND QUALITY: Picks up AM stations clearly and loudly up and down the dial without need of external antenna attachment.
CABINET CONDITION: Cabinet is in excellent condition. No cracks on clock base section section. There is a hairline repaired cracks on the right speaker back cover. No other cracks, chips, or major scratches or burns. The gold colored pot metal base, clock, and speaker surround trim pieces are in excellent condition with no rust no dents, and all securely attached. Clock clear cover is original in excellent condition with no cracks.
KNOBS AND BUTTONS: The tuning dial works fine and smooth no slipping. The volume knob works fine. All original matching two clock function flap knobs.
DIAL LIGHT: No clock light not designed with one. But one can be added for an extra charge.
INTERNAL ELECTRONICS: All paper and wax capacitors have been replaced with modern equivalents so this radio has another 50+ years or more of playing time! All out-of-spec resistors have been replaced with modern correct value and voltage equivalents. There is no loud or pervasive hum. There is no loud or pervasive static between stations unless you operate near modern megahertz devices. The set has been aligned according to factory specifications. The radio has been thoroughly cleaned and inspected. All wiring has been thoroughly checked for possible bridging and weak solder connection.
BATTERIES: This unit runs on batteries only. It does not have an AC power cord. Good news is standard D size batteries are still prevalent and inexpensive. Requires 3 D Size batteries. Batteries are included. Not sure about battery life or how long clock and/or radio operates on batteries.
CLOCK: The clock works unreliably. Tends to stop moving after a few minutes. Then a turn of the time set screw in back gets the clock going again. The clock movement is quiet as factory designed as it was the day it was new. No humming no buzzing no ticking noises. The alarm does not work. The clock set screw in back is not missing the little knurled thumb wheel which is common. The clock black face is in excellent condition with no runs, streaks, rust, pits, or flaking. Sleep timer function works.
LOGOS: No missing factory logos. Bottom base logo plate is blank but is in excellent condition not wavy not tarnished securely attached.
BACKING BOARD: Bottom backing board is in excellent condition with crisp square corners.
POWER CORD: No power cord. Runs on batteriues only.
FACTORY LABELS: Original factory labels are mostly intact and readable
PROVENANCE: Was gently used then stored in a dry cool environment for a long period of time. No evidence of prolonged exposure to moisture, smoking, cooking grease, pets or carpet.
COLOR: White top and bottom.
