Artisan Handcrafted Wood Vintage Ingraham Emerson Model FL-418 "Humpback Bullseye" Vacuum Tube AM Radio Rare! Excellent Plus Condition!
DESCRIPTION: Artisan handcrafted wood tabletop AM vacuum tube radio manufactured by Emerson in the 1938 to 1939 time frame in excellent plus physical condition. The wood cabinet was manufactured by Ingraham of Bristol Connecticut. This particular cabinet design is affectionately called the "Humpback Bullseye" for obvious reasons. This particular example is in excellent original condition with great sound!
CABINET CONDITION: Cabinet is original artisan handcrafted wood cabinet by Ingraham a subcontracted cabinet manufacturer which produced high end radio cabinets for Emerson for a limited time from 30s to 40s. No veneer chips or major scratches. No cracks, loose or seperated seams. No dents or divits. Beautiful veneer striping around perimeter bowed contour of cabinet! The original finish in excellent condition with no rough or thin spots. Not re-stained or over-sprayed.
SOUND QUALITY: Picks up AM very clearly and loudly around the dial without external attached antenna. The reception selectivity and sensitivity is excellent.
KNOBS: Original matching factory brown matching Emerson Aristocrat knobs volume on/off and tuning.
DIAL LIGHT: Dial lights work and light up brightly.
CLOCK: No clock
LOGOS: Original factory Emerson logo decal is in excellent condition not rubbed off or flaking.
INTERNAL ELECTRONICS: All out of spec capacitors have been replaced with modern equivalents so this radio has another 50+ years or more of playing time! The tubes are working fine. All out-of-spec dog bone resistors have been replaced with modern correct value and voltage equivalents. There is no loud or pervasive hum. The set has been aligned according to factory specifications. The radio has been thoroughly cleaned and inspected. All wiring has been thoroughly checked for possible bridging and weak solder connection.
POWER CORD: The new replacement power cord and plug are in excellent condition with no cracks, or splits.
BACKING BOARD: Original factory backing board is missing. Factory antenna loop is original excellent condition and securely attached.
FACTORY LABELS: None missing
PROVENANCE: Previous owner was an avid collector and radio expert in Delaware. Was gently used then stored in a dry cool environment for a long period of time. No evidence of prolonged exposure to cigarette smoking, moisture, cooking grease, pets or carpet.
