Digital Alarm Clock Radios!
One of these was probably sitting on your night stand during your earlier years.
Many of us are still using one today.
Some us have come to rely on our Smartphones to do what this thing used to do.
There were a variety of these designs from late 70s into the 90s. Basic designs have the AM/FM radio, a red, blue or green digital display, and buttons on top for time and function settings. Some have cassette player.
You remember the sound of the buzzer alarm?
The biggest brands in USA were GE, Sony, Sharp, Panasonic, Sears, Realistic (Radio Shack), Soundesign, and Emerson. Other smaller manufacturers include Magnavox, Sanyo, Spartus, Gran Prix, Sonic, Wards, Zenith, Toshiba, and Timex.
Most were manufactured in Asia Pacific countries like Hong Kong, China, Malaysia, Japan or Taiwan.
Most often, we bought these at a local mall.
The cassette tapes models were higher end. Some of them even came with a phone handset.
These things were cheap, reliable, relatively unexciting piece of our daily lives.
They were the first thing we saw every morning and the last thing we looked at every night. They went with us to college, our first apartment, our first house.
Some of these came in cool colors!
What ever happened to yours?
