Seafoam Green Mid Century 1959 General Electric Model 914D Vacuum Tube AM Clock Radio Popular Model Sounds Terrific! Rare Sought After Color!
DESCRIPTION: Tabletop tube AM clock radio alarm manufactured by General Electric in 1959 time frame in excellent working and physical condition. Very popular late fifties step design in rare original factory molded seafoam green color. This model series was also available in pink, turquoise (not the same color as this one), ivory, burgundy, beige pink, and nutmeg beige tan. Few colors are more symbolic of mid-century Americana than seafoam green.
SOUND QUALITY: Picks up AM stations very clearly and loudly around the dial without need of external antenna attachment.
CABINET CONDITION: Cabinet is original factory molded seafoam green plastic. All original factory molded colors through and through. Not repainted, no touch up, not over sprayed. No cracks, chips, no major scratches. Front gold clock cover is in excellent condition with chips, greening. There are a few hairline micro-inclusions by 12 o'clock. Clock function lettering is in excellent condition. Usually these markings are faded or rubbed off from use.
KNOBS: Original matching factory volume and tuning knobs are securely attached in excellent condition. Gold metal inserts are in excellent condition. Factory original matching barrel clock function knobs, no cracks and securely attached. Back clock set thumbscrew is original and securely fastened.
LOGO: No missing logos. Front black factory painted raised General Electric logo is in excellent condition, not rubbed off.
DIAL LIGHT: Replacement LED tuning light works and lights brightly and lasts longer than incandescent bulbs! Light follows the tuning pointer across the dial. Neat!
CLOCK: The clock works quietly and keeps accurate time. The alarm works. The buzzer works. The clock and alarm set function work. Clock motor is silent no humming no buzzing no ticking noises. Alarm and clock set function works and goes off at the correct set times. Buzzer alarm works. Wake to radio or radio with buzzer. Sleep timer works.
INTERNAL ELECTRONICS: All paper and wax capacitors have been replaced with modern equivalents so this radio has another 50+ years or more of playing time! The tubes are working fine. Both Intermediate Frequency Transformers (IFTs) have been rebuilt to ensure static-free performance. All out-of-spec resistors have been replaced with modern correct value and voltage equivalents. There is no loud or pervasive hum. There is no loud or pervasive static between stations. The set has been aligned according to factory specifications. All wiring has been thoroughly checked for possible bridging and weak solder connection. The radio has been thoroughly cleaned and inspected.
POWER CORD: The original blue power cord and plug are in excellent working condition with no cracks, or splits. Not stiff or brittle. No cracks by interconnect base.
BACKING BOARD: Color matching back cover is original in excellent condition. No cracks, no chips, no major scratches. No melted heat vents.
FACTORY LABELS AND STICKERS: Bottom factory labels are intact, ripped on one end.
PROVENANCE: Previous owner identity is not known. Was gently used then stored in a dry cool environment for a long period of time. No evidence of prolonged exposure to moisture, cooking grease, pets or carpet.
