Crimson Red Snakeskin 1948 Travler Model 5028-A Portable AM Vacuum Tube Radio Mint Condition and Works!
DESCRIPTION: Portable vacuum tube AM radio manufactured by Travler in 1948 in very good working and mint physical condition.
SOUND QUALITY: Picks up AM stations clearly and loudly around the dial without need of external antenna attachment. Although sound quality is not stellar because speaker is just 3.5"
CABINET CONDITION: Original factory red snakeskin patterned fabric over wood cabinet. Not re-skinned. Original factory covering. Wood cabinet is solid with no cracks no split seams no re-glued joints. Red snakeskin covering is in mint condition given its age with no cracks, no scuffs anywhere and no major scratches or discoloration or stains. Original factory red plastic grill is in excellent condition with no cracks, no chips and securely attached. The real testimony to this radio condition is in its leather stitched handle with no cracks, no discoloration, suppleness. Sometimes this model radio is missing its handle altogether. The tuning dial clear cover is intact, no cracks, no warping, no discoloration, and securely attached.
KNOBS: Original matching ivory knobs securely attached. The original tuning dial works fine no slipping no sticky spots. Volume on/off switch works with smooth volume attenuation and definite click when turning on and off
LOGO: Travler logo decal is in excellent condition with no rub off.
DIAL LIGHT: No dial light. Not designed with on but can be added for an extra charge.
INTERNAL ELECTRONICS: All paper and wax capacitors have been replaced with modern equivalents so this radio has another 50+ years or more of playing time! The tubes are working fine. All out-of-spec resistors have been replaced with modern correct value and voltage equivalents. There is no loud or pervasive hum. There is no loud or pervasive static between stations. The set has been aligned according to factory specifications. All wiring has been thoroughly checked for possible bridging and weak solder connection. The radio has been thoroughly cleaned and inspected.
POWER CORD: The original power cord and plug are in excellent condition with no cracks, or splits. No exposed wiring.
BACKING BOARD: Original backing board with matching red snakeskin covering is in excellent condition and securely mounted. Does not flop open accidentally.
FACTORY LABELS AND STICKERS: No internal factory stickers
