Science Fiction Fantasy 1960 Philco Predicta Model J775-124 Vacuum Tube AM Clock Radio Near Mint Condition!
DESCRIPTION: If you're looking for the perfect clock radio for your low budget science fiction movie, this is the one! The Philco Predicta is one of the most iconic designs of the late fifties. "I Predict-a You Will Like-a!" The Predicta TV is instantly recognizable now and has come to symbolize all that is retro futuristic. It embodies the essence of the Sputnik early space age period. The design is strangely prescient, like it could have been introduced in the 60s, 70s, 80s, or 90s. Extremely sought after by collectors and vintage enthusiasts. These Predictas won't be attainable for long! Tabletop tube AM clock radio alarm manufactured by Philco in 1959-60 time frame in excellent+ working condition. Late fifties design in rare near mint condition with no cracks, chips, or missing pieces. Many of these Predicta clock radios have cracks on the top clock section. Many are missing some or all of the top push buttons which tend to pop off with use. The clock movement is quiet as factory designed as it was the day it was new. Picks up AM stations clearly and loudly up and down the dial without need of external antenna attachment. Cabinet is in excellent condition. The bottom section is excellent glossy condition with no repairs no repaints. None needed. The Philco metal logo is flat, shiny no rubbed off letters. A lot of these surviving examples have a wavy metal logo piece that has been re-glued at some point. This radio is over 55 years old! The clock face swivels 180 degrees from side to side as designed. The clear clock dial face is clear with no cracks. Please see the photo close-up. The clock gold metal surround trim is shiny like new. The tuning dial works fine and smooth no slipping. The volume knob works fine. Both volume and tuning knobs work as designed. All paper and wax capacitors have been replaced with modern equivalents so this radio has another 50+ years or more of playing time! Push buttons all work. The clock works and keep accurate time for a mechanical analog design. The alarm works. The buzzer works. The clock and alarm set function work. Sleep function works although there is no way to tell whether it is set to 15, 30, 45, or 60 minutes unless you count number of times you press the sleep button. This was an oversight or omission in the model design. Other clock radios of the period with sleep timer some times did offer a sleep timer indicator. The clock knurled set screw in back is not missing which is often the case. The tubes are working fine. The dial light works. All out-of-spec resistors have been replaced with modern correct value and voltage equivalents. There is no loud or pervasive hum. There is no loud or pervasive static between stations unless you operate near modern megahertz devices. The set has been aligned according to factory specifications. Backing board bottom is in excellent condition with crisp square corners. Bottom factory label is intact yellowed with age. The replacement power cord and plug are excellent working condition with no cracks, or splits. No exposed wiring. The radio has been thoroughly cleaned and inspected. All wiring has been thoroughly checked for possible bridging and weak solder connection. Comes from non-smoking, mature, clean professional environment.
