Elaborate Ornate Wood 1935-36 Emerson Model U4B AM Vacuum Tube AM Radio! Remarkable Condition!
DESCRIPTION: Elaborate ornate front design. Tabletop AM vacuum tube radio manufactured by Emerson in mid to late thirties timeframe.
CABINET CONDITION: All original factory wood cabinet is in remarkable condition given its age. Not repainted no touch up no over spray. None needed. All cabinet wood panel joints are original no loose or separated seams. Solid construction. Original factory brown paint is in excellent condition given its age with small paint dings and edge flaking throughout. Original factory grill cloth with loose separation around the dial glass window. Factory original tuning dial window is glass and securely mounted no cracks. Tuning dial back panel is original no rust, no stains, no flaking or rubbed off numbers.
SOUND QUALITY: Picks up strong AM stations around the dial with an external attached antenna wire. I was able to pickup one loud station. The other stations were weaker and barely audible.
KNOBS: All original factory matching brown Bakelite volume on/off and tuning knobs securely attached.
DIAL LIGHT: Dial light works and lights brightly.
CLOCK: No clock.
LOGOS: Original factory Emerson logo decal is in excellent condition.
INTERNAL ELECTRONICS: All paper and wax capacitors have been replaced with modern equivalents so this radio has another 50+ years or more of playing time! The tubes are working fine and tested good. All out-of-spec resistors have been replaced with modern correct value and voltage equivalents. There is no loud or pervasive hum. There is no loud or pervasive static between stations. The set has been aligned according to factory specifications. All wiring has been thoroughly checked for possible bridging and weak solder connection. The radio has been thoroughly cleaned and inspected.
POWER CORD: Original cloth covered power cord and plug are in working condition. Cloth is dry and frayed but no exposed wiring.
ANTENNA: External antenna wire is original cloth covered, bald exposed in sections. Safe to use no voltage present when on or off.
BACKING BOARD: Original backing panel is in very good condition with few small chips at top and bottom. Usually these back panels go missing over the years.
FACTORY LABELS: No missing labels.
PROVENANCE: Was gently used then stored in a dry cool environment for a long period of time. No evidence of prolonged exposure to cigarette smoking, moisture, cooking grease, pets or carpet. This radio has been in our reserve inventories for a long time. Was gifted by a friend located in Portland Oregon who found it at a garage sale.
