Artisan Handcrafted Wood 1941-42 Airline Model 14BR-729A Tombstone Vacuum Tube AM & Shortwave Radio Sounds Great! Excellent Condition!
DESCRIPTION: Tabletop vacuum tube radio manufactured by Wards Airline in 1941 -1942 time frame; solid physical shape and excellent working condition.
CABINET CONDITION: Cabinet is original artisan handcrafted wood cabinet. No cracks. No veneer chips or major scratches. Highly figured marbly grained wood in beautiful condition. The finish is factory original and shiny and age-checked. Not refinished. No touch up. Not over sprayed. New replacement grill cloth is in excellent condition. Front tuning clear plastic window is original excellent condition with no cracks, no scratches, not hazy or warped and not extremely yellowed. Tuning back panel is in excellent condition with crisp clear graphics, not faded, no flaking numbers. Tuning metal surround escutcheon is in excellent condition with no dents, dings, or major scratches, securely attached. Radio function decals are in excellent condition not flaking, or rubbed off.
SOUND QUALITY: Picks up AM and shortwave stations clearly and loudly up and down the dial with an external antenna aerial wire (included).
KNOBS: All original factory matching knobs; volume, tone, tuning, tone, and band selector no cracks and securely attached. Factory stamped function lettering is readable.
PUSH BUTTONS: Original factory matching six (6) push buttons are very oxidized and crumbly with age but not falling apart. Works as designed. Returns to correct positions. Does not pop off.
TUNING MAGIC EYE: No magic eye.
DIAL LIGHT: Dial light works and lights brightly.
CLOCK: No clock
LOGOS: None missing.
INTERNAL ELECTRONICS: All out of spec capacitors have been replaced with modern equivalents so this radio has another 50+ years or more of playing time! The tubes are working fine. All out-of-spec dog bone resistors have been replaced with modern correct value and voltage equivalents. There is no loud or pervasive hum. The set has been aligned according to factory specifications. The radio has been thoroughly cleaned and inspected. All wiring has been thoroughly checked for possible bridging and weak solder connection.
POWER CORD: The new replacement power cord and plug are in excellent condition with no cracks, or splits. No exposed wiring.
BACKING BOARD: Original factory backing board is in very good condition. Secured with all original matching 7 wood screws
FACTORY LABELS: Factory labels on metal chassis are in very good condition and readable, 100% intact, water stained.
PROVENANCE: Spent most of its life in rural midwest. Was part of collection of avid collector. See gallery article here.
